ASEAN Issue 4

Dear [first name],

Welcome to the November issue of Manufacturing News, the newsletter designed especially for professionals in mechanical engineering, engineering design, process engineering and electrical engineering.

This issue, we celebrate the successes of our fellow designers and engineers – and how they have leveraged their skills with Autodesk Inventor – in the inaugural “quick draw” competition in Singapore.

We’ll look at how organizations, when faced with critical business demands, need to constantly retrain and motivate their staff to remain professionally relevant to the industry. We’ll show you how CAD Managers can increase their value to the company in the sections below.

We’re also terribly excited on new developments on the interactive front that aims to help you get much more from your Autodesk experience. First, you can now get all those nifty tips and tricks via video tutorials – brought to you in conjunction with Cadalyst.com. No doubt you’ve been hearing much about our upcoming and highly anticipated Autodesk University 2007 in Las Vegas. If you can’t be there, don’t fret – we’ll bring AU to you virtually via Second Life!

Finally, we learn about the features of Digital Prototyping in Autodesk Inventor 2008 and how a car designed with those features broke the world speed record; how students today are starting at the forefront of robotics; and of course, we showcase our Autodesk Inventor of the month winners – HTC Sweden.

If you would like to share your comments on how we can improve this newsletter, please send them to asean.marketing@mail.autodesk.com.

Happy Reading!

Improving the CAD Manager’s value
To program or not to program — that is the penultimate question when managing CAD projects. CAD professional consultant Robert Green presents some solid reasons as to why programming is a valuable skill for the CAD Manager and how to turn oneself into a valuable, independent resource.

Autodesk Inventor 2008’s New Digital Prototyping Feature
Digital prototyping is more than a simple shift in process. For one, parametric design applications provide model documentation without a model of the underlying physics that affect motion and function. That dynamic simulation is crucial to digital prototyping.

Read how Autodesk Inventor 2008 fills the missing link. Here are Top 10 Reasons to move from AutoCAD to Autodesk Inventor.

Digital Prototyping Powers New Land Speed Record
Russ Wicks and his American Challenge team use Autodesk to digitally configure a 2007 Dodge Charger stock car that reached 244.9 mph.

Digital prototyping enabled Wicks to fully test the effectiveness of outer mold-line surfaces like spoilers and fins before manufacturing any physical prototypes of these parts.

Read how Autodesk Inventor also was used for layout and design to enhance suspension and drive train as well as for performance tests.
